NBA Preseason Dallas Mavericks vs Minnesota Timberwolves 20:30 ET   The Dallas Mavericks come into this game in high spirits. They defeated the Bucks twice without their star big man, Kristaps Porzingis. Luka Doncic has been in great form and is surely an MVP candidate this season. With one of the most potent offenses in the league, the Dallas Mavericks will be looking to make it 3 wins out of 3 games against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The talented Slovenian will be the team’s star against the Timberwolves. It has not been a good start for Minnesota in the NBA Preseason. They have a 0-2 record, losing both their games. They were one of the lottery teams who landed Draft pick No. 1 in the 2020 NBA draft. The Timberwolves had an exciting off-season which saw them add number one pick, Anthony Edwards, to the roster, alongside veteran point guard Ricky Rubio. NBA Preseason Phoenix Sun vs Los Angeles Lakers 21:00 ET   In their first game on the new court in the renovated arena, including the theater lighting to Devin Booker’s liking, the Suns will host the World Champion Los Angeles Lakers in a preseason game. The Lakers — who just played their last game of the 2019-20 season two months ago — are 2-0 this preseason without multi-time MVP LeBron James and perennial All-Star Anthony Davis. The Suns are 0-2 this preseason barely playing 10-time All-Star Chris Paul (18 total minutes in two games) and keeping the top of the rotation on short minutes. Now each team only has two preseason games left, both here in Phoenix at the new arena that does not have a formal name yet after their last sponsorship expired.   LIVE STREAM

NBA Preseason Houston Rockets vs San Antonio Spurs 20:00 ET   The Rockets began their preseason friendlies with two games against the Chicago Bulls, with whom they shared a win and a loss. The novelty in Houston were the debuts of John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins, who will seek to add level to the team to take it to the top of the league. The Spurs, without too many modifications in the squad beyond the return of Dejounte Murray, have fallen before the Oklahoma City Thunder 121 to 108. San Antonio's goal for this 2021 will be to qualify for the playoffs after failing in the edition more recent. As for the possible starting lineups, although they are not confirmed yet, the Spurs would start with Dejounte Murray, DeMar DeRozan, Rudy Gay, Lamarcus Aldridge and Jakob Poeltl. The Rockets, meanwhile, would go with John Wall, James Harden, Eric Gordon, P.J. Tucker and DeMarcus Cousins. LIVE STREAM

NBA Preseason Philadelphia 76ers vs Boston Celtics 19:30 ET The Sixers of Joel Embiid, Ben Simmons and Tobias Harris will look to get ready for the start of a new season. NBA Preseason Portland Trail Blazers vs Sacramento Kings 21:00 ET   The Sacramento Kings will play their second preseason game in a row on the road against the Portland Trail Blazers. Portland defeated Sacramento 127-102 in the opener on Friday. Buddy Hield was a bright spot for the Kings in the loss, dropping 23 points in 23 minutes and went five-of-11 from the 3-point line. Head coach Luke Walton’s new offensive system was on display with Sacramento getting out and running when it could, but the team’s defense struggled to slow down Portland. The Trail Blazers had 41 points in the first quarter and took advantage of the Kings’ sloppy transition defense. LIVE STREAM

NBA Preseason Los Angeles Lakers vs Los Angeles Clippers 20:30 ET   After scoring a victory in their first preseason game, the Los Angeles Lakers are back on the court Sunday night as they will face off against Paul George, Kawhi Leonard, and the Los Angeles Clippers. Unlike the last preseason game, Sunday’s game will be available on television nationally. On Friday night, the Lakers demolished the Clippers. The Clippers played a lot of their big minute players on Friday night but they were unable to get the win against a Lakers attack led by Talen Horton-Tucker and Kyle Kuzma. While the names for the Lakers might be lacking, the show will continue to go on as the Lakers look to get another preseason. LIVE STREAM

NBA Preseason Chicago Bulls vs Houston Rockets 20:00 ET   Tonight, we’ll see if the team can maintain some consistency. I expect Stephen Silas to rest some of the regulars and give a little extra run to the guys trying to make the team or get a G-League spot. With multiple Rockets players returning this season from major injuries, the real test will come in the regular season when guys like John Wall and DeMarcus Cousins have to play 30+ minutes multiple times per week. Getting in gym runs at the YMCA is a good way to shake off some rust, but nothing compares to an NBA schedule. I know there’s little to glean from a preseason game against an inferior opponent, but it was nice to see Wall and Cousins showcase their top-level talent. We’ll soon see if they can maintain that in this 72 game season. Interestingly, I think we’re going to see just how good of a coach Billy Donovan is. And despite disappointing results that saw them miss the playoffs for the first time in 23 years a season ago, San Antonio seems determined to bounce back. The Silver and Black didn’t make much noise in the free-agent market or trade away one of their aging stars like many rumors suggested they might, but they did remain loyal to their values.
