The Women’s Champions League is Lyon’s competition, with the French club winning six in total, cementing their spot as one of the greatest clubs in footballing history. Some people believe Lyon are not the same side that won the past two Champions League finals courtesy of 4-1 scorelines, but the French side have still been tough to beat, seeing off Bayern Munich 2-1 in the quarter-finals. They also recently beat Wednesday’s opponents PSG in the French Cup final on penalties, after a close-fought game.
PSG quickly bounced back from that agonising defeat to knock out Women’s Super League side Arsenal, outplaying the English team for the large majority of the match. But now the question is whether they can get past their domestic rivals, becoming the first side to knock Lyon out of the Champions League since the PSG team of 2014/15.
