Tottenham Hotspur vs Everton
Though it feels like the Premier League season just ended, a new campaign begins for Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday. The fixture list is about as congested as can be with both Europa League qualifiers and the League Cup on the schedule in the upcoming weeks. Rotation will be necessary, but unfortunately Spurs were unable to be extremely active this summer, bringing in just Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Matt Doherty to strengthen the starting XI.
Up first in the league is Everton, who finished down in 12th place last season but added James Rodriguez, Abdoulaye Doucoure, and Allan to help bring the club up the table. With no real contributors leaving the club, the Toffees should be in a good position to challenge for a Europa League spot this season under Carlo Ancelotti, who took over midway through last year.
The two clubs drew 1-1 at Goodison Park last November in an eventful affair, with Dele Alli putting Spurs ahead before Heung-Min Son was sent off for his unfortunate tackle on Andre Gomes; Everton equalized in injury time. The reverse fixture was very forgettable, with neither team looking too sharp in a July contest. An early Giovanni Lo Celso shot deflected in off Michael Keane to give Tottenham the 1-0 advantage, which was all it took to earn three points.
